Will Air Malawi Have The Freshest Air In Flight?

Airline passengers complain about all sorts of things. You name it, they complain about it … bad food, cramped seats, jet lag, boring movies, passengers passing gas next to them and odd odors in the air.

While passengers will always have something to complain about … passengers flying with Air Malawi may no longer be able to complain about passengers passing gas next to them or odd odors in the air.  Earlier this month Malawi passed a law that makes flatulence illegal. Under the new laws, flatulence (passing gas, passing wind, farting, etc) is a crime against public decency.

The actual wording of Malawi’s new law reads: “Any person who vitiates the atmosphere in any place so as to make it noxious to the public to the health of persons in general dwelling or carrying on business in the neighbourhood or passing along a public way shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.”

As Air Malawi’s aircraft are considered Malawi’s sovereign soil, and subject to the laws of Malawi while in flight, the airline faces a conundrum of enforcing this new law.  While Air Malawi only serves eight destinations in Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe … the task of enforcing such a law will be a unique one for the cabin crew.

Interestingly … Air Malawi operates two Boeing 737-200s, from 1983 and 1985 … so while the engines of these planes may not be environmentally friendly … the air on board these aircraft should environmentally friendly for the passengers.
