Weekend Musical Interlude : Rush’s YYZ

I know you may be thinking “How can one of the top selling rock bands of all time (having sold more consecutive Gold & Platinum albums than all but three bands in history) name a song after an airport code?” … OK, you’re probably not thinking that at all … but just in case you were thinking it, let me tell you. Rush is from Toronto, Toronto Pearson International Airport’s ‘bag tag’ code is YYZ … and Rush’s legendary drummer Neil Peart has been quoted as saying “”It’s always a happy day when YYZ appears on your luggage tags!

So, given that Rush’s new documentary film soon to be released on the 10th of June, and I have a pair of Neil Peart drum sticks packed in my bag, I thought I’d pay tribute to Rush, one of the greatest instrumental rock songs ever written and share with you one fantastic animated video created around Rush’s drummer, airplanes and the YYZ aircraft approach pattern.

Even if you are not a Rush fan, chances are if you’re reading Flying With Fish you like planes … even if you don’t want to admit it … so clear a few minutes from your schedule and check out some fantastic animation and one of the most creative integrations of animated airplanes, airport codes and rock-n-roll you’ll ever find.

Happy Flying!
