4/11/2009 – KLM To Test Out New Bio Fuel Later This Month On A 747 Test Flight
Throughout the past year I have been watching KLM‘s interesting initiatives to make the airline more environmentally friendly. From the airline creating a ‘green’ paint for its aircraft to is home airport, Schiphol, participating in Earth Hour, Air France-KLM clearly have their sights set on environmental issues.
Presently KLM is scheduled to fly a demonstration flight on the 23rd of November powering an engine of a Boeing 747-406M with a 50-50 blend of traditional kerosene and sustainable bio fuel. KLM’s bio fuel is designed to reduce both CO2 emissions and the environmental impact of creating the bio-fuel components.
I am interested to see the viability of KLM’s kerosene based bio fuel for long term sustainability, as no airline has currently been able to develop a cost effective bio-fuel solution that does not negatively impact agriculture.
Happy Flying!
