Reader Mail: What Is Your Favourite Airplane Paint Job?
It has been a while since I’ve dug into reader mail, and tonight I was reminded of this while checking out the airplane photography of Leighton Matthews … so let’s dig in … today’s reader mail comes from H.M. Kumar who asks “With all the fanciful  airplane designs airlines are using for promotions and branding, what is your favorite airplane paint job?”
This is an easy question, of all the airline liveries around the world only one airplane currently stands out for me … Alaska Airlines’ Salmon-Thirty-Salmon.
Alaska Airlines’ Salmon-Thirty-Salmon, a Boeing 737-490, was unveiled in October 2005 in support of the Alaskan seafood industry featuring an Alaskan king salmon covering nearly the entire fuselage and tail. The salmon, created by Mark Boyle, was applied with an iridescent appearance and detailed airbrushing to create a three dimensional visual effect.

Screw airline carriers. What about the shark teeth on the front of an A-10?

No argument on the ferocious toothy grin painted on the nose of many Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolts. It is one mean smile looking down at you with a massive 30mm GAU-8 Avenger Gatling gun sticking out … and that paint job deserves some serious respect.

Wow, I’ve never seen that one before. I personally really like it simple and classy…I love the “new” EL AL livery
That’s much more tasteful than the ridiculous Pokemon “peace jet” paint jobs that ANA is flying this summer.
I always liked the smile on the front of a PSA jet.
